Tuition Insurance Plan Option

Tuition Insurance reimburses tuition costs if a student withdraws at any time during the term for a covered reason*, including mental health conditions, chronic illness, serious injury or illness, and COVID-19.

The timing of a withdrawal at the University of Oregon determines the refund percentage for tuition and fees. Medical hardships can quickly become financial hardships, so like many of our peer institutions we are offering UO students the option of purchasing a tuition insurance plan through our partnership with GradGuard.

GradGuard’s optional Tuition Protection Plan broadens the scope of our existing refund policy by ensuring reimbursement for tuition, housing and other payments if a student withdraws for a covered medical reason such as an illness, accident, or mental health issue at any time during the term. For more information, rate quotes, and enrollment, visit GradGuard or call 877-794-6603 to speak to a GradGuard insurance specialist.

Covered medical reasons include:

  • Serious covered illness or injury
  • Psychological/mental health condition
  • Death of tuition payer

The plan does not cover a change in the university’s mode of instruction or withdrawal due to fear of the presence of COVID-19.

Students choose their own coverage limit based on their unique circumstances. Reimbursement can include:

  • Tuition payments
  • Room and board (on or off-campus)
  • Other academic fees

The GradGuard Tuition Protection Plan is offered to University of Oregon students as a voluntary student benefit to complement the institution’s published refund policy. The university is not compensated for this program. Our partnership with GradGuard provides students who choose to enroll in the program with expanded benefits and reduced cost.

Tuition insurance is completely optional. We encourage all students and families to carefully review coverage details on GradGuard before purchasing. The insurance agreement is between you and GradGuard. The University of Oregon is not a party to the agreement. Insurance must be purchased prior to the first day of class.
